" Your prices are fantastic! I bought some floral screwdrivers and hammer from an upscale boutique and were much more expensive than what I would have paid here! Thanks for your great site :) "

Let's get to know our president: Karen

After I graduated from college and moved into my first apartment my mother gave me an unexpected birthday gift. I was looking forward to a 'girly gift' but instead received an electric drill. My mom didn't let my clear disappointment deter her enthusiasm. "Every young woman should own a drill and know how to use it". Begrudgingly I accepted her gift. It took awhile, but I grew to realize how wise she was. As my career advanced, first as a nurse and then as a woman in business, I moved several times. Sometimes because I could afford a better place, sometimes because my career took me to a new city.

Throughout the moves I learned to make my new apartment my own. And I realized that the electric drill that my mother had given to me had become one of the handiest tools that I owned. It helped me to put up curtain rods, pictures, and hooks in cement walls. If I ever encountered a home improvement job that I didn't know how to approach, I first took out my drill to see if there was some creative way that I could use it on the project.

Over time I bought a tool box and added the basics: a sturdy set of screwdrivers of all sizes (another gift from mom), a regular hammer, mallet hammer, needle nose pliers (especially helpful when pulling up tacks from old carpet), regular pliers, wire cutters and a mouse sander. With these essentials I was able to approach my home projects with confidence and ease. I was also able to cross train with some of my craft projects.

When I bought my first house, safety was my number one concern as I was living by myself. Making sure that there were appropriate locks and safety features on the doors and windows - as well as sensor lights on the garage - gave me piece-of-mind.

I felt that I had become pretty competent at taking care of the day-to-day things that have to be addressed by any house owner. And I knew who to call if I was in over my head…..namely my older brother!! Over time I learned more by watching men easily repair things in my house that they clearly thought I could do myself.

When I met Dave, the man of my dreams and got married, he came with all kinds of tools and tool chests. As he created his space in our first house, he merged our tools together. In his mind, this was the right thing to do. Was he stunned by my response - no longer could I find my tools in their spot when I wanted to take care of a project. In fact, I couldn't find my tools at all because they were no longer neatly contained in my personal tool chest. I felt like I had to ask him where things were every time I wanted to use a hammer or screwdriver. Luckily the electric drill was still in its rightful home; however, the box of bits had been moved, rendering it unusable for me.

My independence was shattered as I now felt that all my familiar and trusted tools were scattered. My husband didn't understand at first, but then, to my complete and awestruck surprise, he showered me with my own tool set on my next birthday. He said that that I had lamented the loss of my tools ever since he had merged us together. He returned all of my original tools to my old and weathered box and showered me with all kinds of new ones that he felt I needed. He even built me a tool bench in the basement, just for me. When he told his friends that he was giving me tools for my birthday they warned him that pearls might be a better choice. However, in my mind, it was one of the most insightful and loving things that he could have done for me. And it returned me to my state of independence around the house.

As we build our lives together we continue to identify new projects around our house. Having the right set of tools has made all of the difference in being able to attack a project and complete it to my satisfaction.

Musing over this chapter in our lives, Dave and I discussed how very few tool companies actually provide tools for women. It seems odd to us, especially in this age of cable fix-it shows. So we created Ladies Tools Online together in order to provide a service to any woman that would like to put a nail in a wall or build an entire house by hand! We hope that you find our selections useful. We will expand our offerings as we hear from you, about the tools that you find most useful and items that you would like us to make available to you.
